Dr. Tom McCarty
Virologist - LID/NIAID/NIH
Dr. Tom McCarty is a virologist working on live attenuated virus vaccines for a number of human diseases in the RNA Virus Section of the Laboratory of Infectious Disease within NIAID/NIH in Bethesda, MD. Most prominently he is in the lab’s leadership role developing a live attenuated vaccine for Respiratory syncytial virus disease. The lab has recently been recruited to join the worldwide effort to develop a vaccine to prevent SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). Mr. McCarty is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin (undergraduate), The Johns Hopkins University (Masters), and finishing up a Ph.D. at George Mason University. He has mostly been involved with scientific research with a short 2.5 year period in the US Peace Corps teaching in Botswana.
